The above is a useful thread, contains more information on metadata.

Here's a tool that does exactly what the OP was asking for: https://www.bjoernbojahr.de/endlesswav.html
This reads the root note of a sample from a filename, and applies it to the metadata. Just look for the 'Rename / Root key' button at the bottom of the application.

Ah, that sucks! Thanks for clearing that up.

Has anyone used a good tool for this? For adding efficient Batch Renaming, Key, BPM, metadata that Blackbox can read.

Seems that it can edit metadata, and that is doable even in the batch option. I haven't given it a try yet, but seems doable and would solve a lot of hassle if I could just drop the samples on BB and it would already have the root notes assigned to each sample.

briansin the free version is called MPC Beats. There is a little learning curve, but overall a good tool for the job.

You can do a work around with the free MPC software. It writes the needed data into the files. Keyword: Autosampler.

How do other people solve this for your sample libraries? Are you just loading the wav one at a time into the BlackBox and manually editing the root key? I'd imagine there is some way people have found to batch edit from the filename, no? Thx

    Mapping filename to root note?

I understand BlackBox will load multisample directories alphabetically if the metadata doesn't contain a Root Note tag. However, I have a large amount of samples that are named in the format: instrument_note.wav. for instance, electric_guitar_c#3.wav. Anyone know of a good tool to batch add the root note contained in the filename into the wav file metadata? Or, is this something 1010 is working on in the future, i.e. instead of mapping alphabetically, if the note is _contained_ in the filename, it puts it in the right spot on the keyboard?

Thanks for any thoughts on this, I know many people have msample libraries with no metadata but named with the note in the file.

    Thanks!
    Brian
