Correct cable to sample from phone?

Heys,

Probably a completely idiotic question but I'm trying to sample from my phone, a samsung S10+ but every 3.5mm stereo cable I have registers barely any sound on the blackbox.

When I'm monitoring all I hear is a tinny crappy signal so it leads me to assume I have the wrong types of 3.5mm cables to hand and need to buy a new one.

If someone can tell me exactly which I need, or leave an amazon UK link to one that would be amazing. I've got a great powerbank so sampling from my phone just makes a really handy portable "package".

A stereo 3.5mm cable should work. I sample from my Tascam DR05 recorder but it can't be much different from sampling from a phone ( I might be wrong) Are you getting a loud signal in the sampling page?

No it isn't loud, a bit tinny and distorted etc. I figured the phone had some extra "thing" to allow a mic to work on the cable but I'm really just guessing.

Any Stereo 3.5mm cable should work the same. Are you setting the input level in the blackbox? Curious, what are you trying to sample?

I was trying to sample from youtube and also some random movies in vlc (it's just a movie player for files).

Forgot to also say, yes with the gain upto max it is still too quiet.

Cheers but the samsung doesn't have a lightning connector.

I have not used anything like that before. I use the apple Headphone Adapter ($10) and a 1010Music 3.5mm Stereo cable, combined with the blackbox input gain, I have never had an issue with amplitude.

Ok, the temptation to just delete this post is strong. I have found the problem and it was me

Despite changing through multiple cables I didn't once plug any of them in fully into the blackbox, the jack just a really stiff extra little *click* to make a proper connection despite feeling solid and connected before the click.
