Wow the update in reading seems huge. I came to site just wondering if there’s a new firmware update. And this seems pretty cool. Thank you. I am currently hesitated to update since in middle of a project, i would want to give a couple of days and follow up here. But just asking aaron, how stable does it seem ? To you ? Thanks again.
I dusted off my BB to update it from 1.6 to 1.7 today, and to my surprise there's the new 1.9 update! In particular, I have really wanted the dedicated MIDI sequences. This adds so much flexibility.
I love the new knob representation. It is intuitive and pleasant to use. It makes the filter very playable.
Now, after playing with my BB for a couple of hours today after the update, this is my main feeling:
The LFOs were a missing, but necessary feature. They were really needed to make the device feel like a musical instrument. The old interface for the filter and envelopes was really lacking. It was obtuse enough that those features may as well have not existed for me. Now, they are intuitive and playable, and again, make the device feel more like a musical instrument and not just a sample sequencer.
My BB had been sitting in its box for about six months. I'm now excited to dig into it again and see what it can do.
In Pads, I click info to bring up the load sample scree, then press it again to get to filter, level, ADSR (nice layout in this page) but when I turned the top right knob a bit quickly I lost all the knobs displayed on the screen.
Is this ment to happen? Did I stuff up? How can I undo this issue?
Aaron This literally made the Blackbox the perfect sampler. I can't think of a single feature I'd want now. You knocked this one out of the park and from where I can see, others are still running to catch the ball.
I'm right in the middle of a project now and have literally been thinking a few times per day, lately, "Ah, but if I only had the Bluebox eq" and at dinner, I've told the family "Some delay filtering would be nice, wouldn't it?" and at work, by the coffee machine, I've let me colleagues know "I'd sure love myself some LFOs". And now it's all here.
Aaron Found one for you now - when applied on already existing projects before 1.9 - eq only seems to work on _one_ sample. I load up an earlier project and select an fx slot and tweak the eq. It only affects that sample, not the others.
I start a new, blank project. I apply the eq, and it affects all samples in that project, like a master eq.
I'm assuming the eq is a master eq and is supposed to affect all samples, and as a consequence, it seems to not do that for previous projects.
The EQ is messing with my head a little, too, right now. I think I need to practice with it more - but some docs that describe exactly what it's doing would be welcome. (I understand docs will come eventually)
I might like a PANIC button on the EQ that just resets the whole EQ to default. Would need to strike the appropriate balance to avoid accidental use.

Nope, it still works like a master, but only on the currently selected sample when you start working the eq. The rest are unaffected. Clearly, a bug.
It makes total sense to only have the eq on master, in general. You get pretty far with the filter, especially now, when it comes to just finding a sample's place in the mix. Once they're all there, tweak the overall image before you route everything into whatever final output you got at home.
It's tempting to reach for it when still working on a track, but that's very counter-productive. So I'm gonna pretend it doesn't exist until I've finished the track I'm working on now Especially the LFOs will make for a welcome addition, and for whatever I'm doing next, I'm gonna be all over the midi features.
Aaron Incredible work ! Thank you and 1010music teams for listening to the user feedback !
This has become a best in class sampler and sequencer ! You should definitely make these new features known to the public somehow, I’m sure new reviews will boost sales.
I believe now 80% of my high number of requests have already been implemented ! I only have two notable remaining ones :
- Song mode improvement with stems export
- Some more choice on FX and if it takes too much of CPU, they can be sample-level destructive FX inside the sample editor.
With these implemented, I think It’ll be the ultimate box to take everywhere and make beats. For now I’m using it in combination with the Korg NTS-1 and the Sinevibes FX Collection when on the go. It’s the perfect fit as it also brings some great synth engines
Awesome! Thank you for this huuuuge update.
Any chance that the LFOs are moved out of the pads to have them available globally instead? Some pads in a set will not need a LFO while others might need 3. The same modulation source across different pads would also create interesting sonic experiences.
