  • Laucnhcontrol XL not recognized anymore

    Hello,

I was previously on version 1.7 and recently switched to 2.1. It's great firmware overall, however I had abad surprise: my midi controler Novation launchcontrol xl is not recognized anymore. Midi learn finds nothing when I move pots.

Anyone else using this controller ?

How are you powering the blackbox? Are you using a sufficient cable for the XL? Is the XL in low-power mode?

I can confirm that my XL works in 2.1.0. I am able to map all the controls and they work - the XL does not drop connection.

Ok Steve now that you’ve spilled the beans … share your Novation Launch Control XL template please for those that are using this midi controller for the BB

Steve -- I asked this question in another MIDI CC thread but specific to the Launchstation . . . how does it differentiate between different pads on the Blackbox if they are all set to the same MIDI channel? so that if I only wanted Launchstation to tweak the filters on Pad 1's sample, what prevents Launchstation from sending the same CC filter tweaks to Pads 2-16, if they're on the same channel?

This seems to do the trick !
I had the same issue with dropping connection to the LCXL after a minute or so, but after setting the LCXL to low power mode, it's been fine now for a while.
For conveneince, here's the part from the LCXL manual how to set it:

Note:To use the Launch Control XL with an iPad you must first switch it to low power mode. To do this hold down both the User and
Factory Template buttons and insert the USB cable. Release the Template buttons and press ‘Record Arm’.* Finally press the right arrow button.
The Launch Control XL is now in low power mode. This setting is remembered even if the power is disconnected.
      * To put the Launch Control XL back into full power mode repeat the above process but press ‘Solo’ instead of ‘Record Arm’.

      /edit:
It happend again, despite the low power mode on the LCXL.
Next, I've reverted back to firmware 2.0.0 (was 2.1.0), so far it's doing fine.

Hi Chris. Check that thread for my response. You need to Learn the setting in the mod screen. If you want to set an external CC to control the filter, navigate to the filter mod screen, touch Learn, and send CC to blackbox - save the preset.

check out this playlist for general tips. Some things will look different but the functionality has not changed so much.

This video will give you more info about routing MIDIc in the blackbox.

How about the cable from XL to blackbox?

I didn't know about low-power mode... it seems to do the trick. Will have to double-check with long session to be sure. Thank you.

EDIT: well... I won't have to double-check, the damn thing just lost connection...

How are you powering both devices? Specifically? Which cable(s)? It is not an insignificant detail.

Blackbox is powered via its own original psu. Launchcontrol xl is powered by the Blackbox using the original novation cable.

Does “PSU” mean you are using the supplied wall adapter and USB power cable?

I wasn’t aware that the BB came with a dedicated PSU?
I think mine came with only a USB cable.
I have recently purchased a LCXL to midi map the BB … so I’ll be watching this thread closely.

So let’s narrow this rabbit hole of inquiry down shall we?
we seem to be going of on another tangent unnecessarily.

                  Two questions;

                  1. Is the 1010Music BlackBox “wall adapter” anything different to most USB power source wall adapters that reference concern when using the NLC-XL in piggyback power mode to the BB?

                  2. Are you open to sharing your customised NLC-XL to BB template for others to use and modify freely so that they may understand how to map other gear in the future?

                  Thanks

I can't speak to most others. If you do not provide the required power to the blackbox, it won't do a great job powering another device. The blackbox wall adapter provides the required 2A @ 5V the device needs.

I have no customized template for the LaunchControl XL. I use it in the default configuration.

                      1. Ok. Are you using the latest OS of 2.0.5 for BB with your default configuration of your LaunchControl XL?

                      2. Are you using your LaunchControl XL in ‘Low Power’ mode or the default when using BB 2.0.5?

                      Thanks
