  • Looping missing features

I'm a little bit confused of what kind of features BB has for live looping and what it does not, but I'm struggling to achieve what I'd wish for. Let me explain:

I have a Squarp Pyramid that inputs midi clock and play/stop commands through usb in BB. I was hoping to play some guitar riffs to BB by first pressing play on Pyramid and then recording the loops to BB. I would like to have the BB to wait for the next bar before starting recording after I'ver pressed REC from BB. However, it seems that the BB ignores the Lead In and starts recording immediately. It seems impossible to get everything in sync this way.

Am I doing something wrong or is the BB just unable to work this way? All it would take would be to just start recording at the first beat, and there is already a counter for that in BB.

This recent YouTube video might help you: https://youtu.be/74M961RJXWU. Also, at the risk of being labeled a busybody, a wish list thread is for adding your support to a feature request and not for asking for help. Your post would be better placed in the Community section of the forum. No big deal; just FYI.

Hey thanks a lot for that video, it really cleared things up regarding the possibilities And yeah I accidentally put this question on the wish list 'cos I just searched for a topic regarding live looping features. Good call and sorry for that.

The trick here is not to use thresshold recording, but rather set record quantise to something like "1 bar"
Start the pyramid and when you're ready to record, press record in the BB, it will wait until the bar wrap before it starts recording and you'll have a perfect loop.

The guy on the youtube video is using threshold recording, which gives such bad results that everything sounds out of sync. He'd better use a footpedal or something to tigger the record and use Rec Quant instead.
In an ideal world (feature request), you could combine thresshold recording and Rec Quant setting so that as soon as the thresshold is reached, the recording is armed for the next quant wrap.

Nicely put, thanks! I also think the rec threshold works quite awful in this context. The guy is clearly struggling to make the simplest loops.

In my setup, Pyramid also sends the play command, for launching clips (otherwise that, the play bar in the Pad just stays white), so in order to record this way, I have to first press stop, then wait holding the rec button to settle myself to the beat, then press play at the same time, wait for the lead in and then start playing. It's a little cumbersome, but kinda works. The drawback is that the other clips will mute and I'll just have to imagine playing with them.

So yeah, there could be some improvements in this section of BB. Of course one can always argue that BB isn't designed for these purposes. Then again, I'm not sure what's the "intended way" to use BB.

Thanks, I messed up. I'm the guy from the video. I wondered why everything was working so wonky. Before I had it working. But I turned off the Rec Quant setting.. so silly.

          Fixed in the latest vid.
