  • Settings for 32 Slices selected via external cc (digitakt)

    Hi,

I can't get it to work with the blackbox.
Have set the pads midi channel to receive from the same as the digitakt midi channel.
Used the BB's learn function to map CC from the Digitakt but only the first slice is playing.

    Strange behaviour.
When the external sequencer is running with an LFO on the CC to select slices only the first slice is played.
BUT when I manually trigger the sample in the BB screen I can hear that the LFO is selecting random slices, it plays a random slice.
(this is the LFO on the digitakt in effect)
When I stop the external sequencer, manual triggering from the BB's screen doesnt work.

Doesn't make sense to me. I tried with another external sequencer, same problem.

Tried out different settings in the BB but I might have missed something.
Anyone able to shed a light?
    Many thanks!

Please share the exact firmware number you're running on your Blackbox. The MIDI settings and behavior are wildly different between the 2.x.x and 3.x.x firmware.

Yea I've tried the same thing in both 3.0.9, 3.0.10 beta and also an older one. I tried different SD cards as well.

Slices are mapped to notes. You play different slices by playing different notes. Off the top of my head, I cannot think of a way to make a CC directly change what slice is played. [Edit: I'm wrong about CC control! There are settings I've never played with that can do this. Thanks for the correction.]

If there is a way to make the Digitakt send out a random stream of notes instead of a CC, that would be the way to achieve the result you're looking for.

Just out of curiosity, how, specifically, are you making the Blackbox learn the Digitakt CC? I'm very curious what Blackbox parameter you're mapping that you'd expect different slices to play via CC.

Slices accept various modulation sources, CC in my case.
In the BB go to position, select slice param, press "learn" and wiggle a knob on the digitakt.
there are 8 dedicated and programmable encoders for external control in the digitakt.
Subsequently, when the slice parameter is linked to a CC value on the Digitakt, you can apply an LFO modulating that CC value.

it should work like this, did the same thing with Bitbox but instead of CC i used cv modulation coming from my modular.
Worked great on the Bitbox in my modular setup but with the Blackbox i couldn't get it to work the way i wanted.

If you send the Pad Note over the Global In channel, you can use the slice sequencer or the Slice parameter to change slicers. The Slice param should accept modulation. You can also play specific slices using the pad-level MIDI input and sending notes chromatically, starting at C2.
