This machine looks fantastic, has anyone use this as a capable Playback device in a live setting? For example could I have 4 separate backing wav files/tracks coming out of the outputs 1 and 2 and use the built in mixer to EQ? Would this work with the SEQ/SONG modes?

The BB works great as a Backing Track player, you can route click/cue tracks and individual tracks or sounds to its 6 individual outs, use it also to trigger samples freely. I used it in the past month for many shows and I had absolutely no problem. You can have many shows or versions of them on the memory card, track length is barely unlimited. And the best is the BB is so small and portable. It is really recommendable.👍 2Comment

can you explain how you cue the tracks ? I wanted to playbalc some tracks aswell , instead of using ableton ... but I felt a bit lost tbh I feel you cant really have a control over the files , or you have to "pads" window. -
I make a preset for each song and I load it as needed. In the 16 sample slots I use one for the playback and one for the click/cue, these two samples are simultaneously triggered by a long sequence that only contain these two notes. so by pressing the front start button playback and click/cue will be started -
Could you explain more how you set up a click / cue sample slot?

maybe its me but i have the feeling that BB has problems with longer samples regarding syncing it to the bpm. the beat count only reaches to 510 (bars) which is too short for long tracks. so the whole syncing magic doesnt work. thats a shame. bought it for this reason. was highly praised..👍 2Comment

Main reason I bought the BB (now I'm using it as a sound design tool) , but for playback I have several configurations for my workflow
-backing track and some keys into 1-2 output
-click track on 3-4 output for the drummer
- keys on 5-6, output into an external fx processor
set the BB preset to the bpm the backing and click track would play, and set them them to "clip", and then select them first BEFORE hitting play, so they will be ready (much like you would do in Ableton's Live) then hit play. That's the most streamlined way
second way is to have them by sections and you launch clips on top of that, good thing is that you can monitor everything using the hp outLast edited by manonthelivingroad; 01-21-2020, 09:47 PM.👍 1Comment

Is there a video tutorial or step by step guide to setting up the Blackbox as a backing track/stem playback device anywhere? I can kinda get this to work, but would love an instruction for dummies kind of thing. Loving the machine so far.Comment

Thanks for the reply Steve. I specifically would love to see the following, with a view to using this as a basic live playback device:
- Loading long samples/stems. E.G something like, Beats, Synths, Bass.
- Routing each stem to one of the outputs.
- How to easily trigger them all at the same time and for them to run through from start to finish.
So, a relatively straight forward task I am sure, but I am wresting with it a bit, and don't always feel like I am sure with what I am doing.
Even a simple text walkthrough would be amazing. I appreciate some of the helpful comments here, but I feel a tad loss with this process.
Thanks again.Last edited by GLMystery; 02-06-2020, 09:54 AM.👍 1Comment

I should add as well, that I guess attention to this feature has been overlooked on the tutorials etc, as its using the machine in a very primitive way. I do think its important not to underestimate how sorely lacking this kind of product has been for so long, so its great to see something like this enter the market. A simple, affordable box, that isn't loaded with features and menus and is clear in its intention.
As a user said above, to be able to use it as a playback machine with multi outs and some external sequencing abilities is a dream.
To be able to use it for sound design, writing, and sequencing is a beautiful bonus.👍 3Comment

A new trick I discovered .... make sections of songs in long wave file format, like backing track but with sections, using the slicer mode, and triggering them with synth keys or the sequencer. It's like a second song mode. And also, this can trigger sections randomly !👍 3Comment

I also would be interested in a tutorial on stems playback trigger into different outputs along with loading midi files for going out to synths. What would be the workflow for switching songs? Would there be a way to pause stems? Is there a way to jump to song sections (pick up a track at a point in case of emergency) via a midi controller? What is it like to playlist a whole set like this?
ThanksComment

Great video thanks. Here it is for reference (if i found the same one that was mentioned), https://youtu.be/VND8v2YiEYg
I found this question in the video comments from a few days ago which is somewhat concerning on the midi end of things.
"Thanks for this video. I've been trying to use this with audio stems plus midi files but long midi files don't seem to load properly. Have contacted support and they suggested cutting up the midi file into sections"
Being able to trigger song length midi is ideal for this workflow if one is triggering synths live. If there is a video for showing the workaround for this that could be useful. Or if a feature was added to make this doable.
