Rec Source Post Fader weirdness - right channel not recorded

Okay this one's been driving me buggy since forever but I finally figured it out. See my post here for a full description of the problem:
Please post your reactions to the bluebox 1.1 beta (https://forum.1010music.com/forum/product-downloads/bluebox-firmware-downloads/25457-bluebox-1-1-beta) below. Thank you for your support.

    Here's what's going on:
    • If Rec Source is set to Post Fader, bluebox does not record the right channel. Or more accurately, it records a WAV file, but there is no signal; it records silence.
    • So if you pan something 100% right, that sound will not be recorded unless Pre Fader is selected.
    To reproduce:
    1. Plug a stereo source into Input 1 (it's the same with any input but we'll use 1 here)
    2. Set a mono track to take input from 1L and another mono track to take input from 1R*
    3. Pan 1L 100% left, pan 1R 100% right
    4. Set Rec Source to Post Fader
    5. Record something into the 1L & 1R tracks
    6. Play the recording. The 1R track is silent.
    7. Set Rec Source to Pre Fader
    8. Record something into the 1L & 1R tracks again
    9. Play the recording. The 1R track can now be heard.
    10. *The same thing happens if you record into a stereo track.
I might be missing something about the way post fader recording is supposed to work on bluebox but this isn't expected behavior to me.

Don't let this one catch you out! I've lost some good jams this way. Please update on this with the next firmware revision 1010.

Tested on v1.1.2 and v1.1.3 using the recommended SD card, 1010 power supply, and recommended USB cable.

Thanks for the detail. I will look at this today.

      Thanks, Steve!

If anyone is needing to record post fader, here's a workaround for recording the right channel:
      1. Don't record into a stereo track. I haven't yet found a way to record the right channel this way.
      2. Record into two mono tracks, one for L and the other for R. Don't pan the R channel to the right. To be sure, you can pan to the right, but the farther you pan past 12 o'clock the quieter the recording becomes, until you hit silence at 100%. For example, something panned 95% right is recorded barely audible. You can pan things to the left without issue.
      3. So what I do is pan the L channel 100% left and keep the R channel in the center. Of course you get a gnarly stereo image this way, but you can pan the R channel normally upon playback as the issue seems to only appear when recording.
Or you can just record pre fader, of course, and everything pans out

I see it. This is a tricky case. The L/R image is correct in the MAIN recording but lost in the individual track recording. It seems the solution is to tap mono track recordings post-fader/pre-pan. Thanks for the report.

This has driven me nuts for a week, thanks for your trouble shooting and explanation puffycaps. I'm on v. 1.2.6, hope the issue gets solved in following updates...

I bought the bluebox used and really enjoyed exploring all of the mixing possibilities, routing, etc. But then I went to record and only the left channel was recording. I first encountered this with the 1.1.3 firmware. So I updated to the latest firmware 1.2.7 before testing again. I was about to message the guy I bought it from to demand my money back. Luckily I did a search on this forum to find this problem and solution. I have to say it is bizarre to imagine that a setting like 'post-fader' would exclude all tracks panned to the right. It makes no intuitive sense. Thanks for the solution.

Hi, new to the forum. New user of the Bluebox and really enjoying it however I'm experiencing the same issues as above. I'm on firmware 1.2.7 and finding when I record tracks post fader, anything panned to the right does not register on individual tracks. Is there a fix in the pipeline for this as I'd like to be able to record tracks post-fader and also pan the tracks without having to use a workaround that doesn't fully get round the issue. Thank you

As stated above, we know this happens. It has been reported to our database. For now, you may consider either recording prefader or doing your panning in a DAW. A change to this requires changing the underlying routing. No promises here. But we do know about it and have discussed it.
