That sounds like a very reasonable thing to want to do. Why is it 'by design' a loop ? Or do you mean potentially a loop, depending on your external connections...

I'm pretty sure I'm right in saying that no matter what MIDI problems people had with the supplied adapter, getting POWER out of the blackboxes TRS socket...

I'm pretty sure that DIN midi power works through the two pins that are not used in TRS midi (any flavour). So I agree.
